- Begin class by pumping your hand with hand-sanitizer and sitting according to our seating chart.
- Send one responsible student to gather your ChromeBooks and log in.
- Open up our digital agenda.
- Write down your English Objective in your planner:
- "I can collaborate with my partners to understand topics, texts, and issues to build on other's ideas and express my own"
- Write down your assignments for this week:
- Check your email for an email from me with the feedback that I gave you on last week's assignments.
- Respond to my email with any comments, questions, or concerns you may have.
- Read silently using a book from our digital library or our classroom library.
- After Ms. Rangel projects your reading groups, gently gather into your groups.
- Once you are in your reading group, open up to "Heartbeat" on HMH.
- Your goal is to collaborate with your reading group to understand our story.
- Finish reading "Heartbeat" on HMH and answer all of the questions in the yellow boxes.
- After every ten minutes of reading, you will be able to play with our ELA cubes.
- Be sure to submit your work!
- Once you are in your reading group, open up to "Heartbeat" on HMH.
- If you and your group finish early, then please open up to Waggle on HMH.
- Complete the "Write About Informational Texts" activity.
- Clean and sanitize our room.

- Open up our digital agenda.
- Write down your English Objective in your planner:
- "I can collaborate with my partners to gather the definitions of vocabulary words and understand their meanings"
- Read silently using a book from our digital library or our classroom library.
- Open up Google Classroom, then open the "Heartbeat Vocabulary Worksheet".
- With your partners, complete and submit the worksheet.
- Step One: Identify the definition of each word. Do this by using using the definitions on our word wall. Then, write each definition in the box.
- Step Two: Write your own sentence using each word.
- With your partners, complete and submit the worksheet.
- Open up Spelling Classroom and study the words that are assigned to you.
- To access Spelling Classroom, you will need to login in through Clever.
- If you finish early, please read silently, work from your digital choice board, or catch up on missing assignments.
- Clean and sanitize our room.
- Have a great rest of your day! Remember, you are powerful. Use your power to help and encourage people.

- If you have not completed Heartbeat on HMH or your Heartbeat Vocabulary Worksheet on Google Classroom, use this time to finish and complete both of those assignments.
- Open up Writeable and begin working on the "Heartbeat Journal" assignment.
- Prompt: After reading Heartbeat” by David Yoo, we are introduced to our main character-- Dave. We learn that Dave is having an internal conflict because he feels very bad about his “skinny” body. Dave thinks being skinny is a bad thing. To stop feeling bad, and ultimately to impress his crush: Dave tries to eat as much as possible and lift a lot of weights to get “bigger”. Unfortunately, he can’t seem to gain any muscle. So, he resorts to tricking people into thinking he’s “bigger” by wearing five shirts at the same time!
Write two paragraphs in the box below answering the following questions:
If you could pull Dave aside, and have a conversation with him-- what would you say to him to help him with his internal conflict? (Do you think what he’s doing is okay? Why or why not? What advice would you give him?)
